Perseverance Awards

Our Twality community includes everyone, values all voices, and celebrates kindness and learning.  We PERSEVERE, ADVOCATE, REFLECT AND THRIVE.
We do our P.A.R.T.

During the first quarter, teachers nominated students who persevered though difficult times and situations.  Our Perseverance Awards were a huge success.  We had 44 well deserving students who received specialized awards from their teachers.  We had a hot chocolate bar for the recipients.  The students faces were beaming with pride and it was a special morning for all involved.  For 2nd quarter, we will be recognizing students who model advocacy skills.

"I had no idea that THIS was going to happen today.  You work hard and you think it goes un-noticed and then you get an award.  What a great day!"  - Xavier W.

Safe Routes to School

The healthiest way for kids to get to school is to walk or bike safely.  This is the position of the Tigard Safe Routes to School Program that works with the Tigard-area elementary and middle schools to support and promote the use of safe, healthy and active transportation to and from school.  Back in October over 150 students participated in International Walk & Bike to School Day.  But we want to build off this success to continue to increase the number of students who walk or bike to school.  Twality Middle School is looking to establish a Safe Routes to School Program and we need parent involvement to make this happen.

Twality is in a somewhat unique position.  Given the close proximity of Templeton Elementary and Twality Middle School, there is a natural partnership that emerges, especially given that most Templeton students will attend Twality in the future.  By building a comprehensive SRTS Program at each school we can help ensure that kids are able to walk and bike to school for many years.

Please contact Liz Hormann, Tigard SRTS Coordinator, if you are interested in helping Twality take the next step in its Safe Routes to School Program, or if you have any questions.

You an also learn more and stay up-to-date on project on the Tigard SRTS website.

Art in the Burbs

Art in the Burbs is gearing up for our 2016 show schedule for October.  Art in the Burbs is organized by a team of volunteers with the mission to raise funds to support the arts in ALL 15 of the schools in the Tigard-Tualatin School District.  This year we awarded grants totaling over $26,000.  These funds were used across the district in support of the performing arts, music, fine art, Art Literacy , Artist in Residence and many other worthy projects.

We can't do this good work without help.  We have a few open positions on our board (Category Lead, Marketing/PR, and Volunteer Coordinator).  Please take a look at the information sheet below and consider joining us.  The time commitment varies by position.  If you are interested in learning more or have questions please email us at info@artintheburbs.org.  You can also check out our website at www.artintheburbs.com.
